THE CANVAS PLANNER METHOD
Modern productivity

The idea started back in 2014 because each year it was getting harder to keep up with all the meetings, follow-ups, and e-mails. Missing deadlines or forgetting a task or follow-up was unavoidable. It came to a point where it was acceptable.

At the same time, we saw people enjoying working with whiteboards and post-its to visualize their work. People are happy to use them and they are clearly very efficient – so why not apply this success to other areas like our tasks and notes lists and meetings?

People decode visual information 60.000 times faster than text, so we created a method that is visual by design and easy to apply anywhere in any organization. The Canvas Planner Method is a pragmatic way of using private- and shared whiteboards to visualize tasks and get an instant overview.

Our award-winning method can be implemented digitally by subscribing to Canvas Planner cloud software. This will allow your remote teams to work together as if they were standing in the same room.

Hope you like it,

Background

After working in Italy, France, and China I went back to Denmark to do an education called the Kaospilots with international students from all over the world. The focus is on projects, leadership, business, and personal growth. It is a very different/creative education, where you doing the three years are taught by experts from around the world. They teach you about their field and at the same time are you doing projects for companies, implementing what you just learned. It’s intense, frustrating, and fun at the same time. After finishing the KAOSPILOTS I left to do a Master in Science, MSc in Project Management in England. The mornings with check-ins, post-its notes, and some very diverse team members, was replaced with English breakfast tea and a male-dominated world with engineering backgrounds and a much more linear approach to project management. Actually, their view on how to work in general was much more linear.

After graduating with a distinction I left to find a job in Copenhagen right after the financial crises. It was my first job being back in Denmark. I realized the way of working with online collaboration tools was designed and built by types like I met in England. Not by the creative and passion-driven people from my bachelor’s degree. After researching and testing 500 + tools online, they were all building on the same methods I learned at my master’s. But there wasn’t much room to be creative, mix methods, and support the fact that people work in different ways. I wasn’t seeing flexibility in how the tools were made and I was missing the possibility to work just like I wanted with other people who each had different needs for how to structure their work.

So I quit my job to build Canvas Planner with a white canvas, intelligent tasks that are movable like post-its, and with the freedom to mix methods and work with a diverse team in office or remote. We want people to work smarter and not burn out because they are forced into bad work cultures that don’t suit how their brain works.
